There can be two explanations:
-The fe has dropped to software mode. You can check this with ktest key, by default mapped to "m". If this is true then first try a different renderer. This is the prefrenderer option in fe.cfg. On one of my geforces I have to use opengl instead off directx_7. If that does not work you can set the renderfix option to true on an emulator basis in an emulator cfg or for all of them in fe.cfg. This will work always but it can introduce another but much smaller issue and that is the second explanation.
-If you have the renderfix option enabled then the fe has to reinstate the textures in videoram when you come back. This can give a slowdown on the first rotation in all directions you move. After that the fe will be up to speed again
Conclusion: Use a renderer that does not drop to software mode when renderfix is set to false. That will give you 100% speed immediately...which gives a great natural feel. If all off the available renderers drop you into software mode then use the renderfix option.
